All About PRINCE2® process diagrams

We all know about Prince2, right? Prince2 methodologies have given the Project Management world.

But what are Prince2 Process diagrams exactly? Well, they are the diagrams that describe the entire Prince2 Process model and help you conduct every step thoroughly.

In this article, we are going to tell you all about these Process diagrams so that you can make full use of it.

The 2 diagrams underneath show the PRINCE2 Process model. The main outline shows a more point by point portrayal since it incorporates the exercises of each cycle. The subsequent graph is less point by point yet shows the time grouping of each cycle. These graphs structure part of our preparation materials for our PRINCE2 courses.

The chart above shows the 7 PRINCE2 measures. These are the huge hued square shapes on the graph. Inside each process, a square shape is a more modest square shape speaking to every action which happens inside the cycle. Every square shape likewise records the items (or yields) or the process.

The outline doesn't show the subtleties of where each management product gets refreshed, in light of the fact that the chart would turn out to be excessively perplexing by doing this. All things being equal, the outline centers around where the products are made, inspected, and endorsed, and the main updates.

Activities

You can see that inside each process square shapes are a few more modest square shapes. These more modest square shapes are the exercises which structure each process. Every one of the exercises has a name which is appeared on the square shape. An action in PRINCE2 is basically a progression of steps to be performed. The PRINCE2 manual depicts who is answerable for each progression, what should be created, and when it ought to happen.

Triggers

A trigger in PRINCE2 is an occasion or a choice that triggers one of the 7 processes. Triggers on the chart appear in a pale dark tablet shape. Each trigger has a name and a bolt appended to it. The heading of the bolt shows which cycle is set off.

Inside each process, a square shape is a rundown of outputs with letters after them. The letters demonstrate what happens to each output as follows:

  • A – the output is approved in the process
  • C – the output is created in the process
  • R – the output is reviewed in the process
  • U - the output is updated in the process

A portion of the outputs has an asterisk (*) after them. This shows that the output isn't one of the PRINCE2 management products.

Outputs

Joined to a portion of the triggers are shaded twirl shapes. These are intended to demonstrate the outputs which are utilized as contributions to the following process. The shapes contain numbers that demonstrate the outputs concerned and the shade of the shape shows from which measure it is an output.

The graph above shows the 7 PRINCE2 measures happening in time succession. On this chart, time is running from left to right.

Management stages

The vertical slim dark lines speak to the beginning and end of a PRINCE2 management stage. On the left, the 3 wavy supports named “Directing”, “Managing” and “Delivering” speak to the 3 degrees of the PRINCE2 venture supervisory crew to be specific, the project management, the project board, and the team manager levels.

Management levels

The wavy supports show which cycles are performed by each degree of the undertaking supervisory group. At the highest point of the chart, you can see that piece of the firing up a task cycle and the entirety of the coordinating and undertaking cycle is performed by the "Coordinating" level for example the undertaking board.

At the lower part of the graph, you can see the supports named "Conveying" and to one side of the mark, you can see the cycle named overseeing item conveyance. This is performed by the "Conveying" level of the undertaking supervisory crew for example the group administrator.

In the focal point of the chart on the left, you can see the "Overseeing" wavy support. This alludes to the task director. To one side of the supports, you can see that piece of the firing up an undertaking cycle is performed by the venture director just as the entirety of the starting a task, controlling a phase, dealing with a phase limit, and shutting undertaking measures.

The lines and cycle in orange demonstrate what occurs in a special case circumstance. The dark oval shapes speak to PRINCE2 triggers (occasions of choices that trigger a cycle). The bolt appended to the trigger shows which cycle is set off.

Time-driven controls

The chart additionally shows 2 time-driven controls – feature reports and checkpoint reports. These are appeared at ordinary spans on the outline and are additionally appeared in the key at the lower part of the graph.
